As we anticipated, 2015 is turning out to be a very eventful year for School Series. We are currently running 3 programmes:
- Secondary School Programme with a private group
- The Ford Foundation funded Secondary School programme in various high schools in Nairobi
- Life School Programme with AkiraChix
To help us more effectively run these and any other programmes we may take on, we are looking to expand our team by bringing on another Programme Coordinator.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Reading and research: In order to develop course materials, create presentations and revise our curriculum and manuals, you will need to read widely and keep up with social science research as well as developments in behavioural and cognitive science, as well as habit and character formation.
- Liaison: As coordinator, you will be the face of School Series©. You will be expected to attend meetings with various stakeholders such as potential funders and partners, attend conferences, make presentations, conduct trainings and on occasion participate in media interviews.
- Communication: As coordinator, you will be responsible for the keeping the world informed of our activities and providing progress updates. This includes, but is not limited to: blogging, newsletter writing, social media updates, supervising photograph and video taking at our events and sharing the resulting media, stakeholder updates and all other communication.
- Fund-raising and Business development: As Programme Coordinator, you will be where the buck stops in terms of securing funding for School Series© Programmes and establishing partnerships with both private and public individuals and organisations.
- Relationship management: The Programme coordinator is the primary liaison with School Series© Mentors, Guest Speakers & Friends of School Series©. This includes but is not limited to: recruitment, training or briefing, and generally catering to their needs as they work with us.
- Marketing: As School Series© Coordinator, you will be in charge of overseeing the creation and dissemination of all marketing and communication materials and channels. This includes supervision of design and creation of all graphics, banners, fliers, adverts and other branding essentials for our projects and activities.
- Event planning & coordination: In conjunction with the School Series© management team, you will be in charge of all the planning and logistics whenever there is a School Series© event.
REQUIREMENTS:
Ideally, we are looking for a proactive, honest and trustworthy person. They should have strong written and verbal communication skills and be self-directed, self-motivated, diligent, open-minded and committed to School Series© mission

While there are specific skills that we are looking for, please treat the following more as guidelines than as non-negotiable checklists.
Minimum Qualifications
- Proven experience coordinating and planning;
- Respect for diversity;
- Tech Savvy: Knowledge of Content Management Systems, blogging, Social Media Networks (especially Facebook and Twitter);
- Able to work under pressure with short deadlines
- A degree in any related field e.g. Social Science, Commerce, Business Administration, Business Management, Project Management or any other relevant areas. In lieu of a degree, 2 -3 years of relevant work experience will suffice;
- Proven experience coordinating and planning;
- Respect for diversity;
- Excellent command of English and good command of Kiswahili;
- Tech Savvy: Knowledge of Content Management Systems, blogging, Social Media Networks (especially Facebook and Twitter);
- Basic grasp of business and management skills such as: marketing, administration, team management, operations, cost accounting and cash flow management;
- A good command of Sheng;
